The Texas Holdem Tournaments in the World Series of Poker

Just like the huge poker events like the World Poker Tour and the European Poker Tour, the World Series of Poker is a collection of annual Texas Holdem tournaments. This is the pioneer event in the world of poker. It has a very rich history and traditional that can be traced back as early as the nineteen seventies.

Despite players undergoing a series of poker tournaments, the year for this event will always culminate in a no-limit Texas Holdem event that has a $10,000 buy-in. The World Series of Poker is flocked by poker players, almost reaching thousands on a daily basis. The prize for this prestigious event is really high, which makes it very attractive for all the serious and established poker players out there.

Since 1991, the World Series of Poker has been giving no less than a million U.S. dollars to the main winner of this annual event. This high stakes tournament has a serious following from all the top players of the world. In the 1991 season, Brad Daugherty won a million dollars. The other instant millionaires are Hamid Dastmalchi in 1992, Jim Bechtel in 1993, Russ Hamilton in 1994, Dan Harrington in 1995, Huck Seed in 1996, Stu Ungar in 1997, Scotty Nguyen in 1998, and Noel Furlong in 1999.

Starting in 2000, the World Series of Poker has been giving its ultimate winners much more money than the usual. During that year, Chris Ferguson took home as much as $1,500,000 in grand prize. The following year, it was Juan Carlos Mortensen who took home the same amount as a grand prize. However, the series took the poker competition into another level in the year 2002 as it offered the grand pot winner a very high $2,000,000.

After that year, the 2003 event seemed to have prospered more as Chris Moneymaker won $2,500,000. There seems to be no stopping the World Series of Poker from delivering very high prizes. In 2004, Greg Raymer won $5,000,000. The following year, Joe Hachem had to take home $7,500,000. In 2006, the world was in shock as Jamie Gold set a new record in poke prize as he won a glittering $12,000,000. In the latest installment of the series, Jerry Yang won $8,250,000 in grand prize by winning the main event in 2007.

The World Series of Poker is indeed a huge annual poker spectacle that offers players lots of prizes to be won. The different Texas Holdem tournaments that it features annually are undoubtedly some of the best in the world of poker. No wonder why lots of players are dying to compete in the different tournaments of this event. The no limit Texas Holdem format of the main event solidifies the fun and excitement of all the players participating in this event.
